3 - Culture, Wells for the Base Map
As a first step we need to build a blank base map by selecting Project, create/update Project Map.
Loading Townships
Click of the Culture Layers icon
on the Project base map to display the following menu to manage and import culture.
Select Import Layer ..., File..., and select the asc directory and click on twp.asc, OK. The program can determine that the file is Photon ASCII.
You should now see townships under the Available Culture Layers. Press the Apply button to update the map.
But our map is black! We need to change our Background color to gray. Select Color, Adjust SeisX Colors and set the Map Background Color to Grey65 and press Apply. You should now have black township lines on a gray background.
Getting Culture edges
Now import devonian-edges.asc. Press apply and our map should look like the map to the right. Be sure to press the Apply button to update the map window. The pink cross hatched pattern is Nisku, Purple outline High Leduc Reef and Green Low Leduc. Regional dip is to the south. Numerous exploration plays exist on these data. Part of the purpose of this SeisX exercise is to identify prospects! The data used for this exercise have been provided courtesy of Olympic Seismic Data Brokers.
Wells, Location and Log Curves
Select Well, Load Wells. Add files. Wells Directory. Select the welltops.asc file first. Make sure you select Well Data and PHA (Photon Ascii) format.
The Well data has been stored as an Excel spreadsheet. Reformatting awks have been provided in chapter 14 that can be used to convert Well data into SeisX Photon Ascii.
Press Apply, Close and rebuild the map. You should now have about twenty small blue spots indicating where the wells are located. Now load the deviation survey file, deviation.asc.
Load the Log Curves for the wells by selecting Log Data, LAS format, Add Files... We will do this again in the next chapter.
