Logs

In order to load the log curves, be sure to select Log Data, and LAS format. Add Files and select Files, Ok and Apply.

We now need to examine our well Control in more detail. Use the zoom icon to locate yourself over just and few wells and the Attribute button to specify details.

Posting Tops, Well Name, Criteria

Click in the slider bar area to the Well Symbol Attributes panel. Set the Well Symbol size to 0.15, the Well Symbol Color to Blue, the Criteria Scale to 12% and the Criteria Expression set to ncurves. The Criteria Expression is set to display wells that contain logs Cyan at 125% scale. The non-criteria wells are displayed in Blue. Press Apply to see the results.

Other useful Criteria Expressions:

Select Well, Well Information Display, Formation Tops and well ticket. Single click on a well and you will see the well ticket and formation tops displayed.

To the left are the tops information. To the right is the the scout ticket information. Examine the excel spread sheet to see how this information was assembled. It can just as easily come from an access data base with a query to put the data in this format.

Select Map Attributes, Well Posting Attributes. Select "Pool" and top("WATT") to post the abbreviated well name to the Upper Left and the top of the Watt Mountain to the upper right. Make the plot size 0.1in. To see all the tops make sure that All Visible has been selected for the Posting Visibility. Notice that I used the SeisX field called Pool in order to save the short form of the Well Name. I am plotting this as the upper left field. The elevation for the Watt Mountain is plotted as the upper right.

Other useful string variables that refer to a text description:

Log display, Synthetic with sonic-gamma.template

Double click on a well that has log curves (colored cyan). Default gives you a synthetic, log scale plot. Select File, Template, and load sonic-gamma.template. Zoom the display with two clicks of the left mouse button and you will see the following to the left. Click on this image and you will see a larger image!

If you don't get this image, select (File), (Template) and select the sonic-gamma.template, (ok)

Both the Gamma ray and Sonic curve are plotted in the same track. The Gamma is colored green and the sonic is colored red. As a later exercise we will correct the DNVG top by sliding the tops button on the right hand side. The DNVG top was computed in the spreadsheet as the average of the SSPK and BFS tops. This top need to be adjusted to the seismic peak. If you change a top the icon will appear where the blank button is currently located. Click on it to update your top.

Note: click on any screen picture and you will have the full size image. Press (Alt) and the left arrow and you will return to the document.
